Why it matters: total attrition hides the difference between losing someone you wanted to keep and losing someone whose role was being removed anyway. Boards should track this, not the headline number.
Typical benchmark: 8–12% annually for stable, well-managed teams; above 15% usually signals a management or pay problem worth investigating.
